Communal Sustainability endeavors to reimagine the Commons, forging a path toward thriving, resilient communities for generations to come.
Through building design strategies that consider deeply both our shared resources and the human experience of our environment, Communal Sustainability is creating a built environment more integrated with the natural environment— uplifting human and environmental health along the way.
Hi! I’m Emily.
I’m the founder and owner of Communal Sustainability. I have a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, and multiple green building accreditations, including WELL Faculty, LEED Green Associate, and Fitwel Ambassador. I lead a Technical Sub-Group at Health Product Declaration Collaborative, serve on IWBI’s Materials Concept Advisory, and am actively involved in community sustainability organizations such as the Green Building Council and Women in Cleantech and Sustainability.
Despite many “Save the Rainforest” campaigns as an 8-year-old, my passion for environmental work began to truly take shape in high school when I attended Maine Coast Semester School, a high school for juniors and seniors who are interested in hands-on scientific and field research on the environment. Since then, the shape of my career has evolved, but the integrity of its form— to uplift human and environmental health— remains.
After growing up in the Midwest and living on the East Coast for the first few years of my career, I now live in San Diego, CA, with my partner and 5-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback dog. Here’s a peek into our home!
